Twilight Sparkle is a female Alicorn pony voiced by Tara Strong and is the main antagonist of the My Little Pony POP! Series.
Depiction in the series
Stella is introduced in the prologue of the first episode, depicted in a series of medieval-like drawings with a narration that says, 'Two regal friends who ruled together and created harmony for all the land, while the princesses are in an eternal sleep' and that 'Lyra used her unicorn powers to raise the sun at dawn; Stella brought out the moon to begin the night.'
The narration continues by stating: their subjects, the ponies, played in the day but "shunned" the night and slept through it, which made Stella grow bitter, eventually refusing to lower the moon to make way for the dawn. Her bitterness and arrogance 'transformed her into an arrogant mare of darkness: Twilight Sparkle.' Lyra reluctantly harnessed the power of the Elements of Harmony and "banished her permanently in the moon," taking responsibility for both sun and moon, maintaining harmony in Equestria and the universe.
Following the prologue, Fluttershy reads of a prophecy about the Mare in the Moon that states that "on the longest day of the thousandth year, she will rise from the dust and return to the earth, and she will bring about eternal sleep," though Applejack dismisses it as "an old ponies' tale." While Fluttershy composes a letter to Lyra warning her of the danger, an image of Twilight is reflected in a giant hourglass that Rainbow Dash passes by. The day of Twilight's return is also the thousandth day of the Summer Sun Celebration, so Lyra sends Fluttershy to oversee the celebration's preparations which are held in Ponyville and tells Applejack that she "must stop reading those dusty old books" and make some friends. The events of the first and second episodes revolve around Fluttershy and her new friends' attempt to defeat Twilight Sparkle by finding and using the Elements of Harmony, while she tries to stop them in various ways.
Despite most ponies not recognizing Twilight Sparkle upon her return, the episode Twilight Eclipsed shows the ponies celebrating an annual festival called Twilight Night, where foals go door-to-door in costumes collecting candy, which they later offer to the effigy of Twilight. Rarity tells in verse of the legend of Twilight Sparkle, which explains the customs of the holiday.
When Twilight Sparkle returns after her thousand-year absence, she is still mistaken by Spike and Applejack as herself, especially by Rarity, who rouses up a gaggle of foals by shrieking at misconstrued acts of violence perpetrated by Twilight.
Although she originally intended to change the festival into a "bright" celebration, at the end of the episode Twilight accepts Applejack's gift for what it is: a night of innocent scares, harmless pranks, and lots of valuables.
In most episodes, she shows her arrogance and rudness to most characters, including Fluttershy, causing her to cower.
In the episode Leaning Feelings, as Twilight appears she is first seen with her expression similar to Gale's from Angry Birds Stella, and laughs at Pinkie Pie while being interfered, and brings Fluttershy's face close to her face when she is defending the Cutie Mark Crusaders.
Magic Devastation - Part 1 confirms that Fluttershy was the leader of the bunch, and she was involved in the defeat of the evil alicorn Twilight.
Much like the archetypal, over-the-top villains, Twilight Sparkle is overly confident of herself and dramatically declares that the protagonist is a fool (foal) for thinking she can defeat her, and that "she will last forever." She is portrayed as vicious and maniacal, shown when she attacks Lyra Heartstrings and cackles evilly in Beginning of the Day. She is less aggressive than Fluttershy, but is the most arrogant and cunning.
The narration at the beginning of The First Day speaks of Stella's bitterness which transformed her permanently. When she first appears, she intimidates the ponies with her evil laugh and pointed questions. She snidely refers to the ponies as her "beloved subjects," but appears genuinely impressed when Fluttershy recognizes her as Twilight Sparkle.
As shown in the episode, "Take On", when Minuette and Twinkleshine panic and flee, and after a few seconds of indecision, Twilight stops the commotion by shouting "Be still!" in her howling voice, to the accompaniment of a crack of thunder. This shows that she is very arrogant and very rude that she can yell at the Cutie Mark Crusaders, as shown in Leaning Feelings.
- Her personality compares to Juga's personality thanks to her arrogance.
- She is seen also the most overly confident of Fluttershy's friends.
- When Pinkie Pie interferes Twilight, her face expression is similar to Gale's in the photo.
- Twilight is similar to Juga because of their heightened awareness, and their personality.
- Stella was the alicorn responsible for the moon, and a friend of Lyra Heartstrings, before being a tearful friend and becoming Twilight.
