~ Dr. Schadenfreude manipulating his victims to kill their foes. |
Dr. Schadenfreude is one of the overarching antagonists of the FreakShow series.
He appears as the overarching antagonist in The MSG Saga and Australium Unleashed, the main antagonist of Quirky Misadventures of Soldine the Cyborg, and the posthumous antagonist of Mecha Madness and The Saxton Hale Saga.
He is a calculating and highly intelligent mad scientist, possessing an icy demeanor that matches his cold-blooded nature. Alongside his formidable psychic abilities, he harnesses the boundless power of knowledge in genetic engineering. With these combined talents, he endeavors to bring forth an army of extraordinary aberrants, each wielding unique and extraordinary powers. His ultimate goal is to seize control of Freak World, annihilate Soldine and his loyal comrades, and establish his reign of darkness. He stands as the ultimate arch-nemesis of Energineer.
Biography[]
Background[]
At some point in the past, Schadenfreude had left his team and started conducting dangerous genetic experiments. Not much is known about their exact nature and results, but one of them gave the doctor his supernatural abilities. He later recruited Cryo to serve as his henchman.
Not long after this, Schadenfreude's activities caught the attention of a PRL team, who decided the GRY Medic needs to be stopped and confronted him. Unfortunately they were all ill-prepared for the task and, due to the superior powers of Schadenfreude and Cryo, the battle quickly became a massacre. One lone PRL Engineer managed to survive this tragedy at the cost of his right hand and eventually turned himself into Freak hunter Energineer to avenge the loss of his teammates.
Quirky Misadventures of Soldine the Cyborg - First Act[]
Years later, Schadenfreude, along with Cryo, secretly watched a certain BLU Vagineer awaiting the arrival of his defeated enforcer, Robosol. He was delighted at the failure of the monster. A few days later, Cryo finds the remains of BLU Vagineer, who died in a brutal battle with Soldine, and takes him to Schadenfreude. The scientist have publicly stated that they are satisfied with the opportunities it provides.
At some point, he meet Major Scout Guy, a TF2 Freak hunter who left HECU. The Doctor changed his mind and competed with his old friend the Orangeman. When the two meet, Major Scout Guy voluntarily attacks his former ally, but is interrupted and stunned by Soldine and accidentally frees him from Schadenfreude's influence. Dr. Schadenfreude, deep in his boreal laboratory, unwittingly felt his pawn unleashed.
Australium Unleashed[]
After a certain period of time had passed, he continued to make numerous efforts to manipulate CyborScout into carrying out the act of killing CyborSpy. Even though this constant pressure caused her to lose control of her emotions and become consumed by anger, she still made valiant attempts to resist giving in to the temptation. However, as the hours and days went by, she found it progressively more challenging to withstand the allure of his manipulations.
Quirky Misadventures of Soldine the Cyborg - Second Act[]
Not long after that, Medizard decided to take a brief hiatus from his work in the lab. In the meantime, Schadenfreude expressed his disappointment towards Cryo for not being able to prevent the intruder from entering. However, Schadenfreude quickly shifted his focus to his most recent project, the creation known as the Destroyer. The previous entities, Golem, Shriek, and Razor, observed the scene silently, acknowledging the triumph of Schadenfreude's innovative creation methods.
With the HECU still occupying the facility, Schadenfreude wasted no time and sent the Destroyer along with Aberrants to eliminate them. In a fierce and chaotic battle, the Doctor's army emerged victorious once again. As time went on, Dr. Schadenfreude's army grew stronger. While most of his creations remained at the facility to protect him, the Destroyer was given the task of venturing into the Strange World of TF2. His mission was to face and defeat any worthy enemy he encountered, allowing him to gain real-world experience and develop his fighting style. The doctor was thrilled to witness the progress and advancement of his latest creation, as well as the technological advancements he had achieved.
Several days later, Soldin and his colleagues engaged in a calculated act of producing video threats. Filled with unwavering confidence in his men's ability to triumph over any opposition, Schadenfreude dispatched Golem, Razor, Shriek, and Destroyer to utterly decimate the enemy forces. Meanwhile, the Aberrants were tasked with safeguarding the base against any unforeseen surprise attacks. As fate would have it, a surprise attack materialized, prompting Medizard, Energineer, and Ghost to unite their forces and confront the numerous Aberrants who were diligently protecting the facility. Eventually, Energy successfully navigated his way to the doctor's parlor, where he publicly confronted him. Schadenfreude's assessment of the situation was mostly accurate, save for one crucial element. Utilizing his telekinetic powers to control the Energetic, Schadenfreude remained oblivious to the fact that Ghost had enlisted the services of a monstrous being to apprehend the Doctor. Despite enduring the attack and sustaining severe injuries, Schadenfreude swiftly retaliated. However, despite his weakened state, the Energineer summoned enough strength to target the vulnerable Doctor and deliver a fatal shot to his face, ultimately ending his life.
Personality[]
Dr. Schadenfreude possesses a distinctive demeanor that distinguishes him from the erratic and unpredictable TF2 fans residing in the GMod world. Unlike these individuals, who often exhibit unstable and bipolar behavior, Dr. Schadenfreude remains consistently composed and tranquil, exuding an air of arrogance and dignity. However, beneath this composed exterior lies a more sinister aspect to his character. True to his namesake, he derives immense satisfaction from witnessing the misfortunes of others, even seemingly embracing his own unfortunate circumstances. Additionally, he takes pleasure in engaging in mischievous activities and occasionally displays a sadistic streak.
In addition to being highly meticulous and organized in their endeavors, they exhibit a sense of methodical determination, which sets them apart from the impulsive individuals who recklessly embark on destructive paths, causing harm to everything they touch. Despite the fact that their actions and objectives occasionally transform them into monstrous beings, both in the eyes of others and the victims they encounter, it is crucial to acknowledge that they are no more superior to other creatures of darkness.
Powers and Abilities[]
Dr. Schadenfreude's abilities may be collectively called psychokinesis, which is an umbrella term that covers various powers concerned with the use of one's unusual mind.
One of Schadenfreude's abilities is Telepathy. Schadenfreude may communicate with other individuals mentally, whether they want to or not. Whereas he cannot use this ability on very far away and/or beings he is not aware of, once he has been able to interact with an individual he may later communicate with them under almost any circumstances. Whenever this happens, the target's sight usually turns black-and-white and sometimes they can see a ghostly vision of the doctor.
Another psychokinetic power at his disposal is Mind Manipulation. Schadenfreude is capable of mentally discovering and exploiting one's doubts, negative emotions and fears. This technique works best on primitive, single-minded or seriously troubled victims. Rather than changing them into mindless drones, Dr. Schadenfreude subtly influences them to do things beneficial to him seemingly on their own volition.
Furthermore, he has been revealed to possess Telekinesis powers. Apparently he is a master at this, as Schadenfreude can mentally move several objects, levitate himself, and redirect incoming projectiles all at the same time. A defensive usage of this power is that he can immobilize enemies and forcefully push them back telekinetically, causing substantial knockback. He could also telekinetically interfere with Soldine's cybornetic makeup by causing it to short-circuit from the inside, leading his mechanical body to temporarily shut down.
On the same side of the coin, Schadenfreude can also induce Illusions. It is an efficient way to sidestep his enemies and keep them guessing, as he can appear in any place at any time. For instance, Schadenfreude can make an opponent think they have delivered a powerful blow to him, only to turn out that he has been actually standing behind them all that time.

Trivia[]
- Schadenfreude was designed to be drastically different from the typical TF2 Freaks in both personality and powers.
- Originally, his powers had been supposed to be based on darkness and more "demonic" in nature, but due to such factors as difficulties with depicting them and the creation of Slender Mann, they were changed to more typical psychokinetic ones.
- Somewhat surprisingly, he is the first GRY team TF2 Freak who has appeared in a YouTube video, despite his rather late debut.
