CATS is the main antagonist of the original side-scrolling shoot 'em up video game, Zero Wing. He said the most famous quote "all your base are belong to us" due to poorly translated Japanese to the "Engrish" language.


The catchphrase and play through used in the phenomenon since the release of 1989 horizontal side-scrolling arcade shooter game titled Zero Wing (later it was ported to Sega Genesis port in 1991).


The following quote is from the opening sequence of the game which the main antagonist, the ringleader of CATS, appears. Differently, the following conversation script happens below.

Mechanic: Somebody set up us the bomb. Engineer: Somebody has planted a bomb. (lit. It appears that an unknown party has planted an explosive.)
Operator: We get signal. Communication operator: Captain! Receiving transmission!
Captain: What ! Captain: What?!
Operator: Main screen turn on. Radio Operator: We're getting a video on the main screen (lit. A visual is coming on the main screen.)
Captain: It’s you !! Captain: Y...You!
CATS: How are you gentlemen !! CATS: You look busy, gentlemen.
CATS: All your base are belong to us. CATS: With the cooperation of Federation Forces, all of your bases now belong to us (lit. I have received all of your bases.)
CATS: You are on the way to destruction. CATS: Your ship is about to meet its doom as well.
Captain: What you say !! Captain: This...this is ridiculous!
CATS: You have no chance to survive make your time. CATS: Treasure what little time remains in your lives. (lit. We are grateful for your cooperation. Cherish these few remaining moments of your lives.)
CATS: Ha ha ha ha … Ha ha ha ha ha...
Operator: Captain !! Communication operator: Captain....
Captain: Take off every ‘ZIG’!! Captain: I order you to launch all ZIG units!
Captain: You know what you doing. Captain: We have no choice but to entrust to them....
Captain: Move ‘ZIG’. Captain: I ask of you, ZIG [units]... (lit. Our hopes for our future...)
Captain: For great justice. Captain: ...let there be hope for our future (lit. our future, [restore] hope./We're counting on you, ZIG!)
